New video game academy won’t be child’s play

Jheremi Powers is looking forward to his senior year when the varsity linebacker hopes to turn his affinity for Madden football video games into a career.

The Willowridge High School student is hoping to be accepted into the school’s new Academy of Game Design and Development where he’ll study video games through 2D and 3D animation, graphics, conceptual art, lighting and sound mixing.

“I already like video games, so doing it as a career, I want to do all of it and make my own games,” Powers said.

The Fort Bend Independent School District is focused on recruiting incoming freshman for the program, which is open to all Fort Bend ISD students and launches in the fall, but…
